8 years of The Energy Lab

Thank YOU for supporting our town, our community, our neighborhood, our family, my family. I know you have choices for where to leave some sweat behind, to wash out the stressors of life, and to spend the best hour of your day. The fact that you choose to spend it with us is humbling. It means so much because your energy and support directly feed me and my family. THANK YOU.

I am grateful to these people who made the concept of The Energy Lab possible and its continued existence thriving:

  1. My friend Denise for giving me the nudge. Sean and my kids for believing I could and finding a way with me. My mom for never ever doubting even when I had no idea what I was getting in to. Green Acres Design for listening to me, my dreams and philosophies (Christy and Andy Oakes)

  2. Our TEAM of passionate fitness professionals who also believe that there is more to life, and who are committed to sharing themselves to help you and our community find it and feel it!

  3. YOU

  4. Everyone who has gone before me whom I have learned more from than they will ever know

  5. My circle of coaches, mentors, teammates

*** And did I say YOU????? YOU who are here at 5am ready to sweat with us! YOU who are here at 5:30am because it is what you do! YOU who come after you’ve gotten the kids to school to spend time with you and for you! YOU who come after a long day at work, to leave always feeling better than you did when you arrived. YOU who are here every other hour throughout the day for your training session, for your class, to see your friends, to laugh, to sweat, to see what exercises we will do next!

BUT also, THANK YOU to everyone NOT HERE. Because of you, I will not give up. I will not stop. I know there is so much more work to be done and only 1% of the population is being touched by our work.

What we do is truly our healthcare. It IS our preventative medicine. It is our best chance and maybe our only hope.

There is a saying that you can’t put good food into a bad system and expect it to thrive. You have to change the system from the inside out first.

We can have the best message, the best people, the best exercises, times, locations, benefits and reasons to move, but until the mind is right and the person is ready, there will be no action. Or there might be half-hearted action until the fire either lights or extinguishes.

We approach fitness from a “get your mind right” perspective.

  1. “Where the mind goes, the body will follow.” Turn your thinking around, you turn your life around. My coach, Todd Durkin, tells me, “No Stinkin’ Thinkin’!”

  2. BELIEVE. Believe in yourself. Believe the people who believe in you. Believe you are capable of so much more than you know. And most of all, BELIEVE that you can and you will get back up if you fall or if it is not perfect. There is no perfection in life, we are all works in progress!

  3. TRUST the process. “Imperfect action is better than perfect inaction.” We only get one shot at this life and there is no magic pill that can turn us into our perceived ideas of what society expects. The best we can do is our BEST, with what we have and where we are at. No great change ever happened overnight. The process, the journey, the triumphs and tears along the way are each stepping stones. And if and when we think we have gotten “there”, we will wake up to find that the earth took another rotation around the sun and we too get up and keep going.

There is so much beauty in the process.
