30 Day Challenge, Simplify September

SIMPLIFY SEPTEMBER, a 30 day challenge that focuses on simple acts leading to big results! The goal is 30 days of SIMPLE ACTS Start the first of the month (or on Sunday if need time to figure out your challenge goals) with an INTENTION for the first week of the month and then follow with daily simple acts that lead toward fulfilling it. Grab a blank calendar. Write down 4 things you’d like to bring to light in your life right now (joy, exercise, kindness, health, focus, friendships, health, self-care, mindfulness, organization, etc) Week one, write down ONE of those intentions For each day of that week, write down ONE thing you can do to work towards that goal. (this may end up being several different things, or can be something repeated to reinforce a habit) Do the same for weeks two, three and four, filling in each calendar day with an action step. Example: INTENTION #1 to start an exercise program Day ONE, tell a friend or family member *and research or plan on …

I may not be there yet…

A picture tells a thousand words. “I may not be there yet, but I’m closer than I was yesterday.” Yup, I took my shorts off and wore just my swimsuit at the beach. That’s not me.  I’m not comfortable in my skin.  I see all the flaws and imperfections. Those legs, they’ve always seemed like tree trunks to me. They’re my dad’s legs, I would tell myself, but that never changes them. The trouble with this admission is that I own a fitness studio. I spend my days teaching others about health and fitness and moving and eating well. I teach that we can become what we work for.  And yet, I work hard and I eat well, but I cannot change my shape. Perhaps I shouldn’t. I can, however, change my opinion about it. “To be well in my skin.” What if that were my goal? What if that was everyone’s goal? Would we have healthier communities? I follow and recently met Trish Blackwell, which led me to listen to her ‘Confidence on the Go‘ …

When STRONG is More Than A Word

It’s pretty amazing that when we look back, we can see that everything happens for a reason.  Had any of our choices or decisions along the way been different, our paths would never lead us to where we are now. Think about all the worries and thoughts that kept us up late at night, that, when looking back, seem so much smaller than they felt at the time. Seven months ago, I sat with my Todd Durkin Mastermind Team at a retreat in Beaver Creek, Colorado. Todd had something BIG to share with us. He was scared of the potential of a dream he had for a long time coming true. Scared for a dream to come true. Think about that.  We should all have dreams that big, that the reality of them ever happening scares the pants off of us!  I remember his list of concerns and obstacles and fears. He listed them systematically, and he could see his way through each one. Except for one. The fear of succeeding. It holds us back, even the best …

Check in! Know your mantra

Today I am thankful for summer sunsets. Summer thunderstorms. Summer trips. Summer visits with family. Summer sleeping-in for the kids! And Summer moments of reflection!  Thankful for another full moon (tonight is the Supermoon, the biggest and brightest full moon we’ll see all year!)  Checking in with myself under a summer nighttime breeze, a sea of wispy clouds, a full moon rising and realizing my mantra…. My mantra: TO BE HAPPY!   I am also excited to move forward! “Eyes forward! Here we go!” is what my mentor Patti Newcombe said as a way of getting everyone going. As most of you know, to get people going, I encourage you to first “Check in!”  Now is the time to CHECK IN. EYES FORWARD. HERE WE GO! It feels so good to see so many of you returning from summer. Whatever summer was or is for you. I can feel a sense of newness and an anticipation to return to our routines, our habits, our schedules. Each of us comes back somehow changed. We don’t know …
